New Year's letter, 2010
All of us know very well how many years of our lives we have spent so far, and how each of those years was, but none of us know for sure how many more years we may have, or how any of them (if there are any) will be! While people are celebrating the "new year," I am wondering how many of them understand what the "new year" means? I think if people really understood where time and each new year will take them, they would not celebrate the "new year" anymore!
Please don't get me wrong. I don't want anyone to stop celebrating the new year. I myself––and all of those whose last year was difficult, who are still suffering, who want time to fly and go much faster––look forward and hope that a new year will bring change and some relief with it. Despite all the difficulties we saw last year, all of us, if we think positively, have a lot to be happy with and a lot to celebrate. Above all, we are fortunate enough to be alive and see this new year; many people and some of our friends are not!
Hopefully this reminder will encourage all of us to spend our time wisely and take advantage of every minute of our lives to do something good and help people in any way we can, because none of us know for how long we will be fortunate.
Again, I wish you and your families all the best.
Happy and beautiful new year to you all, may peace be upon you all and upon our entire planet.
